DAY 1 ITINERARY

Some of the Places we shall visit on our Kampala City Tour are: Gaddafi Mosque: Renamed Uganda National Mosque, the mosque is located atop Kampala Hill overlooking the city centre. The towering mosque offers the best cityscape view of Kampala City. Lubiri (Kabaka’s Mengo Palace): The Lubiri is the palace for the Kabaka of the Buganda Kingdom. The king has several palaces across the kingdom but this particular one at Mengo is regarded as the main one and houses the “twekobe” (parliament) plus several cultural and historical sites and elements. A local guide shall teach you about this 800-year kingdom and several cultural norms attached to the King and the Kingdom. Kasubi Royal Tombs: The tombs are the burial grounds of the Kabakas (Kings) of Buganda. They are UNESCO sites that preserve the rich culture of the Baganda people. At the tombs, you shall meet the caretaker to explain about the tombs, the Kings who are laid to rest there and the cultural norms of the Baganda concerning the tombs. Observe the unique architecture of the tombs and several cultural artefacts. Bahai Temple: This beautiful building with unique architecture sits on a hill overlooking several suburbs of Kampala. It has lush lawns and many trees and flowery plants teeming with birds and butterflies. It is so peaceful and serene that it feels spiritual. This building is one of the eight continental worshipping houses of the Bahai Faith. Local Markets: A visit to the local markets is worthwhile to get an insight into the economic aspects of many of the Kampala city dwellers. Visit Owino Market (St. Balikuddembe) which is popular for second-hand clothes. Nakasero Market which is popular for fresh farm produce and electronics. Both markets are located in the centre of the central business district.
